i. Memperjelas pengurusan ibadah puasa pesakit.

ii. Merperjelas kaedah penggunaan ubat-ubatan di bulan Ramadhan.

iii. Menggalak pembabitan kakitangan kesihatan dalam memberi kesedaran tentang pelaksanaan pengurusan ibadah puasa pesakit.

Program ini berbentuk seminar sehari dengan penyertaan percuma.

This year, 2009, mark the 19th year of PPIM’s existence. As far as chronological age goes. PPIM is at the end of its teenage life and fast approaching adulthood. However as far as biological age is concern, PPIM has probably attained maturity beyond its age. From a society which was originally conceived by a group of specialists, some senior but many rather young, and perceived as an elitist Muslim specialists’ society , it now has global reach with membership extended to doctors, nurses paramedics and a strong medical student following. The pinnacle of its achievement thus far is probably its global leadership role, through Federation of Islamic Medical Association ( FIMA ), International Islamic Hospital Consortium ( IIHC ) and Consortium of Islamic Medical Colleges ( CIMCO) all headed by past presidents of PPIM. PPIM is where it is now, with the will of Allah, through the leadership of its past presidents and dedication of its members. Taking it beyond its current achievements will be the task of the present and future leadership. It is needless to say a daunting and challenging task. However will Allah’s permission and help nothing is impossible

The current EXCO was entrusted with this leadership Amanah six moths ago. It is a good mix of seniors and juniors in the health profession covering both the public and private sectors. There had already been three council meetings. The current EXCO whilst agreeing to consolidate niche areas which PPIM is renowned for had already made plans for new areas of PPIM ‘s involvement. A series of programmes had been planned for the next two years which will hopefully help translate these niat into amal . Mainstreaming PPIM will be the emphasis for the next two years. This will also be the theme of the next Annual Scientific Meeting ( ASM ) which will be held in Johor Bahru from the 10th to 12th July 2009. For the first time, the ASM will be followed by an International Student Chapter Conference targeting the diaspora of Malaysian medical students worldwide, organised by students for students. PPIM will also pay special attention to the plight of junior doctors and their welfare. Efforts have already been initiated with the Ministry of Health and a national level conference for juniors and specialist in training will be organise in the near future, inshaAllah . On the training front, PPIM will be more involved in the Islamisation of the medical curriculum and in Continuing Professional Development programmes for health professionals. On public education, misunderstanding on what is perceived as Islamic Medicine is still widespread and PPIM will assist the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Higher Education to clarify the issue further. Efforts have already been initiated and by years’ end there will be programmes to bring the message across to the public.

May Allah give us strength to shoulder the various taklif which He wants us to shoulder as part of our reason for existence in this temporary world.

TEMA : CABARAN BARU UNTUK PENGAMAL PERUBATAN ISLAM

TERIMA KASIH PADA SETIAP DAN SEMUA YANG TELAH MENJAYAKAN MESYUARAT SAINTIFIK TAHUNAN PPIM KE -10 INI.

The camp was situated deep into the countryside and the cold chilling weather was very suitable for indoor and some outdoor activities when the weather permits. There were 5 different invited speakers. The main theme of the Camp was “What they didn’t teach you in the medical school”.

The first night began with a casual programme of ice-breaking and knowing each other including a session with Dr Amal regarding introduction to PPIM and its activities. The first morning began with fajr prayer, tazkirah ( by Dr. Amal) and breakfast. This was followed by an outdoor ‘Tai Chi” session with Master tai chi Shamsir- a brother from London. This was followed by jungle trekking into the woods and they are back by mid morning for the first session on “ Islam and Medicine “ by Dr Al Hady. This was then followed by an outdoor suturing technique session. After break and lunch, there is Fiqh Ibadah session with Ustaz Erfino from Malaysian Students Department , London, a 2 hr session with short talk and Q & A session on various issues pertaining to ibadah pesakit and Fiqh of medicine. This was followed by dinner, prayer and night session on “ Medical Profession as Ibadah” by Dr Amal from 8- 10 pm. The group then broke up into 5 small team and each team had a doctor for a career guidance session which ended at 12 midnight.

Second day again started with fajr prayer, tazkirah ( by Dr Amal) and taichi part 2.Then a talk was delivered by Dr Hady on Extreme Medicine followed by an outdoor practical session. In the afternoon there was a presentation on student chapter projects and activities and programme ended at 2 pm.

This camp have shown the enthusiasm and spirits of the participants who came all the way from various parts of UK and Ireland. They were very keen on the topics presented and take good part in all the activities. There were also discussion on what to do next and the future direction of IMAM Student chapter. This includes their upcoming AGM and summer camp projects. They were also informed of the new PPIM line–up, SOP on doing projects under PPIM and PPIM pre Congress meeting for Medical Students on 13th July in Johor. Most of the medical students attending the camps were juniors but at least 30 of them are IMAM activist amongst the seniors. The first batch of IMAM UK & Eire has just graduated, some are still in the UK, most has gone back to Malaysia. Dr Nik Munirah who was the first IMAM Sec Gen will take up the challenge of galvanizing ex IMAM UK/ Eire members when she come back to Malaysia this summer.

PPIM should look forward to garner the aspiration and support of this new generation of enthusiastic IMAM members to be the pillar members and activists of PPIM.
